Trzydniowa wizyta Anny Fotygi w Gruzji związana jest z kolejną misją SEDE w tym kraju.
Przed oficjalnymi spotkaniami z prezydentem, parlamentem oraz rządem, Anna Fotyga złożyła kwiaty pod pomnikiem ŚP Prezydenta RP Lecha Kaczyńskiego oraz spotkała się z liderami opozycji.
„W Gruzji panuje konsensus w sprawie integracji europejskiej i transatlantyckiej. Niezwykle ważne są szczegóły, dlatego przed rozpoczęciem oficjalnych rozmów rządowych spotkałam się z liderami dwóch największych partii opozycyjnych. Jako przyjaciel Gruzji, mam nadzieję, iż dojdzie do ponownego połączenia obydwu partii” – oceniła rozmowy Anna Fotyga.
Anna Fotyga odwiedziła także przebywających w więzieniu byłego premiera Wano Merabiszwilego oraz byłego ministra obrony Baczo Achalaję.
Dziś szereg oficjalnych spotkań, m.in. z prezydentem Gruzji Giorgi Margvelaszwilim, przewodniczącym parlamentu Iraklim Kobakhidze, premierem Giorgim Kwirikaszwilim, oraz ministrami spraw zagranicznych, obrony, pojednania oraz szefami komisji parlamentarnych. Europosłowie odwiedzą także NATO-Georgia Training and Evaluation Centre (JTEC) w Krtsanisi. Z kolei jutro misja uda się w okolicy Zugdidi, gdzie oceni sytuację bezpieczeństwa w pobliżu linii rozgraniczenia z okupowaną przez Rosję gruzińską autonomiczną republiką Abchazji.

A delegation of the Security and Defence Subcommittee of the European Parliament, led by its chair Anna Fotyga (ECR, PL), visited Georgia on 7-10 May 2018.
The focus of the visit was on the various aspects of the security situation in the country, their implications for regional security, Georgia’s security and defence policy, EU-Georgia cooperation in the areas of security and defence as well as NATO-Georgia security and defence cooperation. Particular emphasis was laid on assessing the work of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) including by a field visit to the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) at Abkhazia, in the area close to Zugdidi
The programme of the delegation therefore included meetings with the President, the Prime Minister and leading members of his government, with the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament as well as various committee chairs and opposition MPs, and a visit to the NATO-Georgia Training and Evaluation Centre in Krtsanisi outside Tbilisi. On the second working day, a field visit was conducted to the EUMM Field Office in Zugdidi, which also organised the observation of the Administrative Boundary Line at Abkhazia. Members were briefed by the Head of EUMM, visited the ABL, and joined a regular EUMM patrol on its daily duties along the ABL to Abkhazia.
Mrs Fotyga stressed: “I like to underline especially the enormous efforts undertaken by the authorities in the area of security and defence. I see continuation of the process of army modernization and making Georgian armed forces fully compatible with NATO standards.” “Georgia’s security has regional but also global implications. Also in this context, Members welcomed the important and difficult work done by the EUMM.” said Mrs Fotyga. “The European Union has always strongly supported the territorial integrity of Georgia and will continue to do so in the future. Our mission welcomed the cross-party agreement on new Georgia’s initiatives regarding the populations of occupied territories of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region (South Ossetia) as well as the Otkhozoria-Tatunashvili list. The presence of Members of the European Parliament in Georgia is a manifestation of the EU’ strong support for Georgia as well as encouragement to increase efforts in providing stability for their citizens and strengthening parliamentary democracy.” Mrs Fotyga stressed.
The four-Member delegation, led by Anna Fotyga, the Chair of the Subcommittee, was composed of Michael Gahler (EPP, DE), Claire Moody (S&D, UK) and Jozo Radoš (ALDE, HR).
