73. rocznica deportacji Tatrów krymskich z Krymu przez Związek Sowiecki

Dziś upamiętniamy 73 rocznicę wysiedlenia Tatarów krymskich z Krymu przez Związek Sowiecki. Wielka sowiecka akcja deportacyjna rozpoczęła się 18 maja 1944 roku. Około 238 000 osób, całą ludność krymskotatarską Krymu, deportowano, głównie do Uzbekistanu.

Today, 18th of May 2017, we commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944 by the Soviet Union. About 238 000 people – the entire ethnic Crimean Tatar population – were deported, mostly to Uzbekistan. It was the fourth wave of repression by Russians after annexation of Crimea by the Russian Empire in 1783, ethnic cleansing in 1853-63 and seizure of independent Crimean People’s Republic in 1918.

It is of high importance for the democratic world to honour the victims of the deportations, their children and their grandchildren, to recognize their suffering and to prevent future manipulations of history that attempt to justify a crime that can be never justified.

We must stop the new wave of intimidation of the Tatar nation and mass violation of their human rights on the Crimean peninsula since 2014 under illegal occupation by the Russian Federation. The issue of Crimea must remain one of the absolute priorities for the democratic world.
