SEDE Chair Fotyga concerned by disappearance of UN team in DRC

The Subcommittee on Security and Defence debated the situation in Eastern Congo on Wednesday in order to prepare it’s ad hoc delegation to the region as early as April.

The Chair of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defence, Anna Fotyga (ECR, PL), expressed grave concern about the disappearance of two UN experts in DRC since March 12. She issued the following statement on Wednesday.

„We strongly condemn all signs of violence and are deeply concerned by the disappearance of two UN experts performing their duties in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We call on the Congolese authorities as well as on the MONUSCO command to put all necessary efforts to free them. We are deeply concerned by the recent deadly violence in Kasai. We would like to express our full support for the UN Group of Experts on the DRC and its members. Their work is vital for improving the situation in the country”.
